As a thank-you to our readers, this week’s Beacon features a free 2013 calendar.
The calendar features photographs from this year’s Brunswick Life photo contest, plus lots of great advertisements from area businesses.
“The calendar has been one of our most rewarding special projects,” Beacon managing editor Stacey Manning said. “We love getting quality photos from children and adults each year. It’s hard to pick the winners and select the few that will make it into the calendar.”
The big reward, she said, is gifting the calendar to Beacon readers each Christmas.
“We hope this is a piece you will display in your homes and businesses all year long,” Manning said.
First place in the adult category was won by Carmen A. Daughtry, Calabash, for her photograph “Dogs love the Beach!”
Terrah Hewett of Supply captured second place for “The Snowy Two Step.”
Third place went to Michelle Tinger, Sunset Beach, for “Misty Morning in Calabash.”
The winning entries and a few additional photos not featured in the calendar are on page 1C in our Tides section.
First place in the teen category was won by Anna Martin, 17, Southport, for her photograph “Board Meeting.”
Second place was won by Lauren Kostszycki, 15, Ocean Isle Beach, for “Beach Girl.”
Third place went to Kelsey Ross, 18, Shallotte, for her fun photo called “Getting Nerdy.”
The first-place winner in the children’s category is Berry Jarvis, 11, Ocean Isle Beach, for his photo called “Hide and Seek.”
Second place went to Austin Dale Norris, 10, Shallotte, for “Bunny.”
Third place went to the youngest entrant, Ryleigh Perry, 3, of Ocean Isle Beach, for a self-portrait titled “Me.”
Winning entries in the teen and children’s categories will be featured in the Tides section in next week’s Beacon.
All of the winners won money prizes ranging from $10 to $100.
The calendar features photography by Debbie McQuery, Anna Martin, Austin Norris, Terrah Hewett, Bryce Lafoon, Berry Jarvis, Dianne Tripp, Michelle Tinger, Polly DelVero and Helen Gabriel. The cover photo is by Carmen Daughtry.
