5K race takes place in Shallotte

Todd Robertson, 44, of Ocean Isle Beacon, won the Rotary Clubs of Brunswick County 5K Turkey Trot in 18 minutes, 47 seconds.
The runners ran through downtown Shallotte on a chilly, overcast Saturday morning. The race, which attracted nearly 200 runners, began and ended at Planet Fun and was a benefit for Girls on the Run and Stride.
George Redman, 41, of Surfside Beach, S.C., was second in 19:37.
Suzanne Tulsey, 38, of Oak Island, was the top women finisher in the Rotary Clubs of Brunswick County 5K Turkey Trot and finished third overall in 19:45.
The race had many young runners in it. In the 9-and-younger age group, Elizabeth Anderson and Aidan Kibler were the winners. In the 10-11 age group, Alex Younts and Lauren Riffel were the winners. In the 12-14 age group, Lora Kinlaw and Darby Colthurst were the winners.
