An abandoned house on Big Macedonia Road in Supply was burned down last week, but no one lived in the home, and no injuries were reported.
According to a sheriff’s office incident report, a person started a fire at 384 Big Macedonia Road on Monday, Dec. 22. The suspect was still at the scene was responders arrived, Garner said. No charges will be filed, because Garner said the man who set the blaze was set to inherit the property where the house was, and he did not file an insurance claim.
“There was no insurance on the home because it was so old,” he said.
While Garner said it was first reported the man owned the home, he does not.
“He has lived there on that property for a long time. Somehow, he was going to be taking possession of it in his name. He had lifetime rights to it, and it was willed to him,” Garner said.
A passerby reported the fire around 6 p.m. Garner said the fire marshal’s office turned over the investigation to the Division of Air Quality.
