To the editor: For years the United Nations has had multiple resolutions passed against North Korea from its withdrawal from the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty to economic sanctions.
With North Korea, words of threats mean nothing to them, got it? Nada, zip. The leader of North Korea is quick to threaten and also demonstrate his threats by means of testing his weapons. Anyone been watching the news lately? Two atomic tests.
Resolutions mean nothing without enforcing them. Now I see we are going to be “intercepting and stopping North Korean ships.” We’ll see how long that lasts, if it ever begins.
China is even afraid of North Korea, and rightly so. If North Korea breaks down, then there is a million-man army now roaming China’s borders with AK-47s. Talk about another guerilla campaign.
We, the U.S., are still the world power and with North Korea, President Bush had it right; they are part of the axis of evil, and now you better see that. Military action is inevitable against them, and I would rather see it sooner than later. They are nothing more than a rogue nation whose leader is a dictator.
If the U.S. or the U.N. doesn’t stop with “threats of sanctions” and just more “talk of words,” North Korea will become a doomsday country for the United States and also for our allies in that hemisphere. They are more of an indirect threat now, but only for now. Iran doesn’t intimidate me nearly as much. Think about it.
