Affiniti Golf Partners has been retained to manage Thistle Golf Club, a semi-private facility in Sunset Beach, according to the company’s founding partner, Steve Willy.
In addition to managing all golf operations, Affiniti will oversee the property owners association, real estate sales, membership, marketing, finance, dining and special events functions at Thistle Golf Club.
Affiniti was selected to manage the club by TD Bank, the lender that previously financed Thistle Golf Club & Estates, a 400-acre community that is home to the club. In early December, TD Bank foreclosed on the golf course, country club, common areas, unsold estate homesites and a 40-acre nature preserve.
Operations at Thistle Golf Club have continued in force during its recent reorganization, the terms of which call for all 105 existing club memberships to be honored and maintained with no additional cost to the member other than routine monthly dues.
Opened in 1999, Thistle Golf Club is a perennial 4.5-star winner on Golf Digest magazine’s list of “Places to Play. Thistle Golf Club celebrates the formal origins of golf and takes its name from the golf society that played over the Links of Leith in Edinburgh, Scotland, beginning in 1815. The club has gathered an expansive collection of memorabilia from the original Scottish club dating back to the early 1800s, including a rules book written in 1824 that has influenced the way the game is played today.
“Affiniti is very gratified to add such an outstanding and compelling club to our roster of managed properties around the country,” Willy said. “We are confident that Thistle Golf Club will continue to be one of the most elite facilities on the Grand Strand, all the while faithfully celebrating the earliest history of the game of golf.”
