Train aficionados of all ages are invited to the Intracoastal Model Railroad Club’s upcoming workshop, “Planning to Construct a Model Railroad,” from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at Calabash Marketplace, 10050 Beach Drive in Calabash.

Registration and refreshments begin at 9 a.m.

The event is the second in the club’s planned series of workshops for people in Brunswick County and nearby Horry County, S.C., who are interested in model railroading and toy trains.

Introductory topics to be covered include planning, designing, building and operating your model railroad.

Along with a PowerPoint presentation, two model railroads will be set up as examples, and illustrations of model layout building principles will be presented and discussed.

The Intracoastal Model Railroad Club is an eight-year-old group of Brunswick and Horry County residents that was nationally recognized in 2012 for its outstanding support of the model railroading hobby and educational outreach throughout the area. Its members have a wide range of experience that these workshops allow them to share.
