All-County track team selected

Shawn Sanders of North Brunswick, who won four events at the county track meet, is the Male Track Athlete of the Year.

Suzanne Costello of South Brunswick, the top distance runner in the county, is the Female Track Athlete of the Year.

The team was picked by the sports staffs of The Brunswick Beacon and The State Port Pilot from nominations by the coaches at the three county high sachools.

Members of the All-County Track team are below.

ALL-COUNTY BOYS TRACK

Shawn Sanders of North Brunswick is the Track Athlete of the Year.

Sanders won four events at the county meet: the 110-meter hurdles, the 300-meter hurdles, the triple jump and the high jump. He was the conference champion in the 110-meter hurdles, the 300-meter hurdles and the triple jump.

He won the high jump in the regional. He was a state qualifier in three different events.

Here is the rest of the team:

Josh Balloon, North Brunswick. He is the state champion in the shot put.

Jerry Davis, North Brunswick. Qualified for state in the 100-meter dash.

Greg Gilbert, South Brunswick. Qualified for state in the high jump and the long jump.

Bobby Howard, North Brunswick. He is the county, conference and regional champ in the pole vault.

Marcus Jackson, West Brunswick. The junior was second in the triple jump (40 feet, 10 inches) in the county meet.

Josh Johnson, West Brunswick. The junior finished 12th in the 100 meters (11.19 seconds) at the Class 3A state meet. He was the county champion in the 200 meters (24.06).

Ryan Minor, South Brunswick. The field events MVP for South Brunswick. The freshman qualified for the regionals and won the conference championship in the discus.

Ryan Moeller, North Brunswick. He is the county champion in the 800 meters. He ran on North’s long-distance relay teams.

Rashad Nelson, North Brunswick. Nelson qualified for state in the 800 meters and a relay race. He is the conference champion in the 800 and 3,200 meters.

Jesse Riley, North Brunswick. He qualified for state in the long jump.

Michael Robinson, South Brunswick. He was a regional qualifier in 200 meters.

Kavon Sutton, North Brunswick. He is the county champion in the 400 meters. A valuable relay team member for the Scorpions.

Tony Wright, North Brunswick. Wright, Rashad Nelson and Ryan Moeller all ran on the four-by-800 relay that set a North Brunswick school record.

West Brunswick’s 400-meter relay team. Junior Josh Johnson, freshman Bradley Bell, freshman Quan Bates and junior Mark Cajuste finished 12th (43.98) in the Class 3A state meet.

HONORABLE MENTION

Ted King, West Brunswick. The junior put the shot 42 feet, 10 inches.

Dylan Bowman, West Brunswick. The sophomore threw the discus 126 feet, 6 inches.

ALL-COUNTY GIRLS TRACK

Freshman Suzanne Costello of South Brunswick is the county and conference champion in the 800-, 1,600 and 3,200-meter races. She qualified for state in 800 and 1,600 meters. Costello also set three school records this year in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meters.

Here are the other members of the team.

Cherelle Frink, West Brunswick. The senior was third in the discus in the discus (71 feet, 9 inches).

She is the county champion in the triple jump (30 feet). She was the Lady Trojans’ leading scorer.

Shanae Frink, West Brunswick. The sophomore ran the 100 meters in 13.5 seconds and placed third in the county meet. She qualified in the long jump (16 feet) for the Class 3A regional.

Bree Gawron, South Brunswick. The freshman is the county and conference champion in the high jump. She qualified for regionals in the high jump and the 400-meter and 800-meter relay teams.

Jenna Kazmierczak, South Brunswick. She earned the most points on South’s girls’ team. She was the county champion in 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles. She qualified for regionals in four events and qualified for state in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles. She set South Brunswick school record in 100-meter hurdles. Played softball and ran track and field simultaneously.

Nicole Ray, South Brunswick. She is the county and conference champion in the discus. She qualified for state in the long jump and the triple jump. She set school records this season in the long jump, the triple jump and the discus.
