Nick Napolitano is among three Wingate University football student-athletes named to the 2012 Don Hansen All-Super Region 2 teams. Napolitano, a redshirt sophomore defensive lineman, is a third-team selection.

In his first season as a starter, Napolitano, a West Brunswick graduate, led Wingate with 11.5 tackles for loss (41 yards) and 7.5 quarterback sacks (32 yards). He led the SAC in quarterback sacks. Napolitano was seventh on the Bulldog list with 49 tackles (25 solo, 24 assists).

He had a season-high nine tackles in Wingate’s victory over Tusculum. Napolitano had eight tackles in his first collegiate start against Saint Augustine (Sept. 1). He had six tackles each against UNC Pembroke, Newberry and North Greenville.

Napolitano was one of six Wingate football student-athletes who received Capital One Academic All-Super Region 2 team honors.

The Don Hansen team carries out the legacy of longtime small-college football advocate Don Hansen, who died at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. From Brookfield, Ill., Hansen started and published Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988. Don Hansen's Football Gazette began selecting Division II All-Region squads in 2003.
