The Art Loft, a new section of art at Southport’s Franklin Square Gallery, opens on April 23. This added attraction is the brainchild of two officers, Claire Martin and Virginia Wagner.
“The gallery had growing pains,” Martin said, “and we needed more exhibition space.”
The two put their heads together and restyled and reconfigured the historic building’s second floor. The result is space that expands the area for hanging paintings and centralizes art in one location.
“It is now possible for patrons and tourists to view original, quality art at reasonable prices, all in one area.”
Also available in the Loft are reproductions, both laser printed and giclée, cards, bookmarks, tee shirts, gift items and pottery.
This cooperative gallery represents more than 100 artists from southeastern North Carolina to Myrtle Beach, S.C. Each year, about 10 new artists join and become exhibiting members of the Associated Artists of Southport, the organization that manages the gallery. This remodeling expands the exhibition area and also offers artists a section to promote art that they consider a special value.
Franklin Square Gallery is open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. On the first Friday of each month, the gallery hosts an evening reception from 5-7 p.m. during Southport’s Gallery Walk.
