Art show continues; winners announced

The Brunswick Arts Council’s Winter Art Show continues at Sunset River Studio in Calabash until Feb. 20.

This year’s judge of two-dimensional art was Allesandro Giambra, a native of Torino, Italy, who now teaches fine art classes in Wilmington.

Two-dimensional category winners included Richard Staat, who received the Victor Gerloven Award for Best in Show for his work “Seated Figure.”

Linda Drye earned first place for her painting, “Lazy Palm Pony.”

Suzanne Ellett received the Shari Gerloven Memorial Award for “Bee Keepers Moon Maiden.”

Sharon Bowling received the Ray Forbes Memorial Award for “Ceramic Pot With Radishes.”

Helga Beacham received the Gladys Wagenseil Memorial Award for her painting, “Celebration,” and Sue Ernest received the Lucas Wagenseil Memorial Award for her painting, “Scrubbed and Ready.”

The three-dimensional judge was Vicky Smith, a native of southeastern North Carolina who has a bachelor’s degree in studio art and a master of fine arts from East Carolina University.

In the three-dimensional category, Red Saunders received the Jeanne Gerloven Award for his creation, “Burl Vessel with Leaves.”

Sharon Vinciquerra received first place for her three-dimensional sculpture, “In the Land of Cats.”

Joe Jeffcoat earned the Oak Island Art Guild Award for Cobalt Crystalline Vase, and Bobby Chappell received the Waterway Art Association Award for “The Myth of Reason.”

Sunset River Studio is open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
