A Jessie Mae Monroe Elementary School teacher assistant has been terminated.

The Brunswick County Board of Education voted to accept personnel changes Tuesday night. One of the changes included terminating Anna Stanley, a teacher assistant and bus driver at Jessie Mae Monroe Elementary School.

Terry Chestnutt, assistant superintendent of human resources, said the board was unable to comment on the nature of Stanley’s termination due to general statute personnel laws.

Brunswick County Schools Superintendent Katie McGee confirmed Stanley was suspended with pay effective Feb. 27.

According to the grandfather of a third-grade student who spoke at the press conference where Ed and Tracy Danka complained about how their child was treated at Jessie Mae, Stanley refused to let the student go to the restroom. He asked several times and eventually urinated on himself. Stanley refused to let him call home for a change of clothes or get a change of clothes from the parent facilitator, the grandfather said.

The student was recovering from the flu and was advised by his doctor to drink additional fluids, said the grandfather.
