After a daylong Fourth of July Eve visit, Hurricane Arthur has cleared the local coast, allowing holiday events to proceed Friday, including Fourth of July parades in Sunset Beach, Ocean Isle Beach and Southport, and several fireworks shows.
Friday, local beaches were jammed with beach-goers soaking up sun and fun on land and sea.
In Sunset Beach, business was brisk at Island Market, Sunset Slush and other establishments lining Sunset Boulevard.
Crowds have also been turning out to see “Tammy,” Melissa McCarthy’s new movie that debuted nationwide July 2 after portions were filmed last year in Shallotte. Gary Rice, general manager at Coastal Stadium 10, said it’s been the top-selling movie this week at the Shallotte theater.
Other weekend events are back to normal as well.
The weekly summer Shallotte Farmers Market is from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday in Riverside Park in Shallotte.
Gary Lowder and Smokin' Hot are scheduled to perform at Holden Beach’s Summer Concert Series at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the end of Jordan Boulevard.
