The Continuing Education and Workforce Development Department at Brunswick Community College offers short-term programs and classes for self-improvement, cultural enrichment, and academic achievement geared towards adults seeking intellectual stimulation, community involvement and social interaction, according to Karen Ladley, public information officer at the school.

Ava Gardner Museum Tour: see original scripts, costumes and personal effects of screen legend and N.C. native Ava Gardner. The tour includes lunch at the Sweetwater’s Grille and Cheesecake Co. in Selma and a stop at the outlet stores. 7:30 a.m.–6 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, Supply, $49.
Florence Nightingale: The Lady With The Lamp: Marjorie Megivern returns to portray Florence Nightingale, a legend in the nursing world and a marvel of organization and perseverance. 11 a.m.–1 p.m. Thursday, May 22, Supply, $35 (includes lunch).
Oil Painting for Beginners: Do you have an interest in beginning or developing your skill in oil painting? 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, through May 27, Leland, $65.
OSHA Construction Safety: learn a basic understanding of OSHA regulations, enforcement and compliance. 9 a.m.–noon Tuesdays and Thursdays, through June 5, Leland, $60.
The Empowering Leader: focuses on the new role of today’s leaders and managers and examines empowerment in three arenas: job design, organizational systems and environment, and leadership.
