The Continuing Education and Workforce Development Department at Brunswick Community College offers short-term programs and classes for self-improvement, cultural enrichment, and academic achievement geared towards adults seeking intellectual stimulation, community involvement, and social interaction.
Many business courses are free due to funding from a Small Business Center grant. Seniors, 65 and older, can also take many classes free of charge.

Learn to Play Guitar: Supply, Saturday, March 29–May 3, 9-11 a.m., $65.
Coffee Hours and Lectures: Write Your Life Story “Where to Begin;” Supply, Tuesday, March 25, 9-11 a.m., $15.
River Heritage Tour: Join us for a trip to Conway, S.C. The trip includes a river tour in an enclosed heated/air conditioned boat followed by a walking tour of historic homes and lunch at The Side Wheeler Restaurant. Bus departs from the BCC Supply Campus (Odell Williamson Auditorium) at 8 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, and returns at 6 p.m. Cost is $60. Call 755-7413 to register.
Oil Painting for Beginners: Are you interested in beginning or developing your skill in oil painting? Leland, March 19-20, 9:30-11:30 a.m. Cost is $65.
Drawing for Beginners: Whether you are just beginning or want to fine tune your skills, this course will help you develop your ability to draw. Materials needed: 16x20 newsprint pad, charcoal pencil and kneadable eraser. Leland, Tuesdays, April 8-29, 6-8 p.m. Cost is $65.
Gardening in Southern Brunswick County: This course will cover the climate and challenges of gardening in the coastal South, including garden design, soil basics and environment friendly plant care. Emphasis is on which plants will thrive in our area. Supply, Mondays, April 7–May 5, 6-8 p.m. Fee waived for N.C. seniors older than 65. Others are $49.

Quick Spanish Free Workshop: Supply, Thursday, March 13, 8 a.m.-noon, or 5:30-9:30 p.m. Course is free.
Quick Spanish For the Workplace: This class is customized for businesses and organizations. Supply, Monday, 2-5 p.m. or 6-9 p.m., 13 weeks starting March 24. Cost is $55.
What You Need To Get A Small Business Loan: Supply, Tuesday, April 1, 6-9 p.m. Free.
Biodiesel: This introductory workshop covers the fundamentals of biodiesel with an emphasis on fuel production, quality control, engine performance, and vehicle emissions. Supply, Thursday, April 3, 6-8 p.m. Free.
Banking Supervision: Encouraging people to work well with others is the key to success as a supervisor. Supply, Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 8-June 5, 6-9 p.m. Cost is $60+.
Revitalize Your Nursing Skills (.4 CEUs): This class is designed to refresh nursing skills and techniques necessary to compete in today’s nursing workforce. Supply, Wednesday, March 19, 5:30-9:30 p.m. Cost is $50.
Introduction to Paralegal: Students will receive exposure to basic knowledge and terms used in the legal system. Class will include: how to conduct investigations; assist in probate matters; search public records; prepare, serve, and file legal documents; perform library research; and provide office management. Supply, Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 25–June 12, 6-9 p.m., Cost is $60.
Bartending, The Right Mix: This 21-hour class is a fun and useful way to learn some of the required skills and recipes used by all professional bartenders. Supply, Mondays, March 24-May 5, 6-9 p.m. Cost is $55 plus book.
QuickBooks for Small Business (Getting Started): Participants will begin using QuickBooks accounting software as soon as they arrive. By the end of the first session, they will have a business checking account and budget ready to use. Leland, Monday, April 7, 6-9 p.m. Free.
QuickBooks Pro for Small Business, Payroll: This is a hands-on program will have you up and running with the premiere small business payroll system. Supply, Monday, March 17, 6-9 p.m. Course is free.
Microsoft Office: This class will introduce individuals to MS Word for word processing, MS Access for database management, MS Excel for spreadsheets and MS PowerPoint for creating computerized presentations. Supply, Mondays and Wednesdays, March 24-May 14, 5-7:30 p.m., $60.
Microsoft Word for Small Business: This course is practical and fast paced. You will be able to set margins, edit text, select and format characters and paragraphs, add page breaks, use “find and replace,” add headers and footers, save a document as a Web page, and format the e-mail address as a hyperlink. Microsoft Excel for Small Business: Leland, Tuesday, April 1, 6-8 p.m. Free.
Windows and Internet: Students will learn about the desktop, menus, folders and file management, title bars, defragmenting and changing the screen saver and control panel. Supply, Wednesdays, March 26, 6-9 p.m. Cost is $55 and $5 technology fee.
