BCC men defeat St. Ignatios

 BOLIVIA—The Brunswick Community College men’s basketball team beat St. Ignatios College Prep of Drayton, S.C., 98-83 Feb. 14 in a non-region game.

For BCC, Khari Faison scored 21 points, Quinton Morrow 16, Montez Loman 15 and Cam Jones 14. Allen Hauser and Darrion Eastmon each scored eight points. Demarkus Forbes and Anthony Williams each scored four points, MaKenzie Kurvits-Statum and Tre Francisco three each and D.J. Rowell two.

A 3-pointer cut the BCC lead to 78-75 but the Dolphins outscored St. Ignatios 9-2 in taking an 87-77 lead.

In the run, Loman scored the first basket and Francisco hit two free throws. With the lead 82-77 and 6 minutes, 21 seconds left, Loman made the defensive play of game, blocking a shot. St. Ignatios was unable to score on the follow-up, and that led to a score by Williams. A free throw by Morrow and a fast-break layup by Eastmon completed the 9-2 run and put the Dolphins ahead 87-77.

Hauser scored off a pass from Williams with 3:44 left, and Hauser scored off a pass from Morrow with 2:49 left, increasing the lead to 91-78. Hauser’s 3-pointer from the left corner gave BCC a 94-80 lead with 1:37 left and clinched the victory.

BCC (16-10) has four region games left before the Region 10 tournament March 7-9, the qualifier for the national tournament.
