BCC plays first round of NCJAA tourney Friday

The Brunswick Community College baseball team opens the NJCAA Division II Southeast Region Tournament at 1 p.m. Friday against the College of Albemarle.
The eight-team, double-elimination tournament takes place at Hooker Field in Martinsville, Va. The winner qualifies for the World Series the following weekend.
BCC is the No. 2 seed; Albemarle, the No. 7 seed. The winner plays at 4 p.m. Saturday against either      No. 6 seed Catawba Valley or No. 3 seed L.B. Wallace. If BCC loses against Albemarle, it plays a loser-out game at  10 a.m. Saturday.
The tourney ends either with a 7 p.m. game May 17 or a 1 p.m. game May 18, depending on who reaches the finals.
Lenoir is the top seed. It swept BCC in a three-game series in the last weekend of conference play. If BCC and Lenoir win their first two games, they would meet at 4 p.m. Sunday, and the winner would advance to the tournament title game.
BCC finished the conference season 19-5, one-half game behind conference champion Lenior. BCC enters the tourney 34-12 overall. The 34 victories are a season record.
