BCC wins shortened

second game

BCC beat Stanly 5-0 in the second game, a game shortened because of darkness.

Stanly Community College had scored five runs in the top of the seventh to tie the score 5-5. BCC had two at-bats in the bottom of the inning before the home-plate umpire halted the game because of darkness. BCC coach Robbie Allen said the final score was then decided by the last complete inning played, and because the Dolphins led 5-0 after six innings, that is the official score.

For BCC, starter Tory Schroff pitched six scoreless innings, giving up five hits. He struck out seven and walked none.

SCC scored five runs in the seventh against three BCC relievers.

BCC scored two runs in the first on a two-out single to left field by Alex Sasser. His hit drove in Allen and sophomore second baseman Nick Hunter. They had singled with one out.

BCC scored two runs in second. Freshman third baseman Damon Hoggard walked and freshman outfielder Jonathan Corbett doubled to center. A groundout by Collins scored a run and another run scored on wild pitch. The Dolphins went ahead 5-0 in fourth on a hit batter, a stolen base and an error.
