BCC rally stuns Cape Fear

Morrow, Walls hit go-ahead 3s in 80-76 victory

Three-pointers in the final 90 seconds by Quinton Morrow and Kameko Walls helped Brunswick Community College rally from a 17-point second-half deficit and beat Cape Fear 80-76 in a Region 10 basketball game Jan. 25 at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatics Center gym.

Morrow, who scored two points in the first half, finished with 23 points. Walls, who scored 16 of BCC’s 34 points in the first half, finished with 21 points.

BCC trailed 73-60 when Morrow scored BCC’s next 10 points in cutting the lead to 74-70 with 1:41 left. He began the spree by rebounding a missed dunk by Marcus Graham.  Morrow then made a steal and converted a three-point play. He hit a 3-pointer from the right wing and finished the run with by making a layup that cut the lead to 74-70.

Cape Fear missed a free throw with 1:37 left and Graham sank two free throws with 1:36 left, cutting the lead to 74-72. Tre’ Francisco made a steal and Morrow hit a 3-pointer from the right wing, putting BCC ahead 75-74 with 1:22 left.

Cape Fear made two free throws with 1:16 left, but Walls sank a 3-pointer in front of the BCC bench, giving BCC a 78-76 lead with 54 seconds left.

Cape Fear missed two free throws with 22.3 seconds left, and Graham clinched the victory by hitting two free throws with 8.4 seconds left.

Walls kept the Dolphins in the game in the first half after Cape Fear went on an 11-2 run in taking a 31-18 lead. Walls scored 14 straight points as he single-handedly cut the lead to 39-32. He hit a jump shot at the start of his spree. He made a full-court layup. He scrambled for a loose ball and hit a 3-pointer, cutting the lead to 33-25. He hit another 3-pointer, this one from the left baseline, cutting the lead to 33-28. Walls’ last field goal in the run was a turnaround jumper. He hit two free throws with 1:47 left, cutting the lead to 39-32. The half ended when a Cape Fear turnover led to a dunk by Steve Johnson.
