Ministeri throws five-inning one-hitter in second game

BOLIVIA — The Brunswick Community College baseball team beat Wake Tech 11-10 in nine innings in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday, May 3, at Founders Field.

BCC won the second game 11-0 in five innings as Alex Ministeri (8-1) threw a one-hitter, walking two and striking out four.

Entering the final day of the regular season, BCC is 19-7 in the region (26-16 overall). Region leader Catawba Valley Community College is 21-6. BCC is on probation and ineligible for postseason games.

In the first game, Wake scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning to tie the score 10-10, but BCC won the game in the bottom of the ninth. Sophomore T.J. Brown led off with a walk, Freshman Willie McRae singled and freshman Cole Josselyn reached on a fielder’s choice. With one out, sophomore Patrick Graham singled to right field, scoring McRae with the winning run.

For BCC, Graham had four hits, a walk and five RBIs. Freshman Designated hitter Nick Debo hit a three-run home run. McRae had three singles, a double and one RBI. Brown had three hits, a walk and one RBI.

Sophomore Ryan Maksim was hit twice, walked and singled. Freshman Addison Futrell, sophomore Ben Morris, freshman Chase Gehringer and freshman Robert Lail each singled.

Sophomore starter Jimmy Boyd gave up nine hits and six runs in seven innings. He walked two, hit one and struck out six. Freshman Dylan Reed pitched one-plus inning and was charged with two runs. Freshman Jacob rice pitched two-thirds of an inning and was charged with one run. Sophomore Jordan Cummings got the last out in the ninth and was charged with one run.
