BCC splits weekend doubleheader with Surry

 On Saturday in Dobson, the Brunswick Community College baseball team beat Surry Community College 5-1 in nine innings and lost 6-5 in seven innings.

In the first game, Bryson Benton was 3-for-5 with two RBIs. He hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning in giving BCC a 3-0 lead. Tyler Ruffin was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Jonathan Corbett was 2-for-5 with one RBI. He and Ruffin drove in runs in the seventh inning as BCC took a 5-1 lead.

Winning pitcher Michael Green gave up six hits and one run in 8.2 innings. He walked two and struck out seven.

In the second game, BCC scored three runs with two outs in the seventh inning to tie the score 5-5. Anthony Colantino led off with a walk and with one out Ryan Collins walked. With two outs, Corbett singled home a run and Josh Hardwick singled home two runs to tie the score. SCC won the game on a home run by Conner Bodenhamer against Jordan Cummings.

BCC is 21-8 and second in the region. It is 25-15 overall. BCC has three region games left, May 5-6 at Danville, Va.
