The Brunswick Community College basketball teams play this week in Region 10 championship tournaments.
The Lady Dolphins (5-9, and seeded No. 4) open the tourney Friday at Patrick Henry Community College in Martinsville, Va., against Cape Fear (5-9 and seeded No. 5). BCC has beaten Cape Fear twice this season.
These are the other first-round games: Catawba Valley vs. Guilford Tech; Louisburg vs. Wake Tech; Lenoir vs. Patrick Henry.
These are the final regular-season standings: 1. Catawba Valley, 14-0; 2. Louisburg, 12-2; 3. Lenoir, 7-7; 4. BCC, 5-9 (No. 4 because it was 2-0 against Cape Fear and Patrick Henry); 5. CFCC, 5-9 (won coin flip against Patrick Henry); 6. Patrick Henry, 5-9; 7. Wake Tech, 4-10 (No. 7 because of regular-season win against Lenoir); 8. Guilford Tech, 4-10.
The region tourney is scheduled to end Sunday. The National Junior College Athletic Association Division II women’s national championship basketball tourney begins March 19 in Peoria, Ill.
The BCC men finished 8-4 and second in the region regular-season standings, 20-10 overall, and will play No. 7 seed Clinton (1-11, 6-18) 5 p.m. March 7 at USC Salkehatchie in Walterboro, S.C. If BCC wins, it plays a second-round game at 7 p.m. March 8.
USC Salkehatchie is seeded No. 3 (7-5,13-16), Cape Fear is seeded No. 4 (6-6, 18-11), Aiken Tech is seeded No. 5 (6-6, 12-15) and Denmark Tech is seeded No. 6 (2-10, 5-20).
Spartanburg Methodist, 30-0, is the top seed and has clinched a bid to the national tourney. If it also wins the region tourney title game, set for 2 p.m. Saturday, the runner-up will also advance to the NJCAA Division I men’s national championship basketball tourney, which begins March 18 in Hutchinson, Kansas.
