The Brunswick Community College volleyball team has signed Branchville (S.C.) High School senior KaAnn Murray to be a setter for next season as the Dolphins defend their Region 10 Conference and conference tournament championships.

“I am very excited to have KaAnn come play for me at BCC,” coach Stephanie Beach said. “I have been recruiting her for about six months. I saw her play at a club tournament in Myrtle Beach and saw great talent, leadership and commitment. I am looking forward to working with her to enhance the skills she already has and having her as the leader of our team.”

Murray, who is 5-foot-4, “will do great things for us on the court,” Beach said. “The returning players have all met her and they were extremely excited when she decided to sign with us.”

BCC begins its season Aug. 28-29 in Jacksonville, Fla. Its first match in the Dinah E. Gore Fitness and Aquatics Center will be 5 p.m. Sept. 14 against Guilford Technical Community College.

Murray, who intends to study physical therapy, has had a successful volleyball career. She was on the South Carolina Coaches Association for Women’s Sports All-State Team in 2007 and was a tournament MVP in 2007. She was on the South Carolina Class 6-A All-Region and All-State teams in 2007 and 2008. She was on the High School Sports Report All-State volleyball team in 2007. She is the Wendy’s High School 2009 Heisman Award winner for Branchville High School. She has been selected to play in Orlando, Fla., on the South Carolina AAU national team in 2009.

“I like a setter who can take charge of a team on the court and lead the offense,” Beach said. “I feel very comfortable with KaAnn assuming that role.”
