The Brunswick Community College baseball team opened its 2011 season by beating Harford Community College 9-1 and 2-1 Saturday.
In the first game, starter Brock Holmes gave up no hits and one unearned run in three innings. He walked four and struck out one.
Reliever Tory Schroff gave up two hits in four innings. He walked none and struck out four.
John Faircloth hit a home run and was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Jay Cannon had a two-run triple. Drew Alford doubled. Joshua Powell doubled, had a sacrifice bunt, walked and was hit by a pitch. Daniel Oliver singled and walked. Ryan Collins singled and walked twice. Colton Wright, Tommy Wright and Josh Hardwick each had singles.
BCC scored twice in the first. Cannon reached on an error and Alford doubled. One run scored on a wild pitch and the other scored on a groundout by Faircloth. Faircloth’s homer in the second put BCC ahead 4-0. He drove in Collins, who had led off with a single.
BCC scored its final five runs in the fifth. Two runs scored when Colton Wright’s grounder was misplayed. Tommy Wright and Hardwick followed with singles. A run scored on a wild pitch. Collins walked. Cannon tripled to deep center field, driving in two runs.
In the second game, Powell, as a reliever in the seventh inning, picked off the tying run at second base to get the first out. A strikeout, a walk and a flyout ended the game.
Starting pitcher Michael Green gave up four hits and one run in two and one-third innings. He walked two, hit one and struck out six. With the bases loaded in the second inning, he ended the inning with three straight strikeouts. With one out and the bases loaded in the third inning, he got a force at home and a groundout to end the inning.
Tyler Robinson pitched three and two-thirds innings, giving up one hit and no runs. He walked none and struck out two.
Powell, in the final inning, gave up a hit, a walk and struck out one.
BCC scored its first run in the second inning. Tyler Ruffin led off with a single to center. K.J. Walters reached on a fielder’s choice. Ryne Poplin doubled. Miles Landron grounded out, driving in the tying run.
BCC scored the winning run in the third inning. With one out, Collins singled to right field. Alford was safe on a fielder’s choice and stole second. Colton Wright singled to right field, driving in the run for a 2-1 lead.
