The Brunswick Community College women’s basketball team beat Cape 70-66 Saturday at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatics Center gym.
The Dolphins hit three straight 3-pointers in the final minutes in rallying for the victory. Until then, BCC had hit one of 11 3-pointers in the game.
With less than 2 minutes, 30 seconds left and BCC down by six points, BCC’s Crystal Hicks hit a 3-pointer off a steal. Shanita Hampton hit an off-balance 3-pointer to tie the score. After a steal, Hampton hit another 3-pointer, which gave the Dolphins a three-point lead.
Hicks hit one of two free throws and Tyesha McLean made two steals to preserve the victory in the last 28 seconds.
BCC led 34-30 at halftime. Each team scored 36 points in the second half.
For BCC, Syerra Troutman scored 21 points and had 10 rebounds and four steals. Hampton scored 15 points and had seven assists and three steals. Hicks scored 12 points, hitting six of eight free throws. Monica Smalls scored 11 points, had four rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots.
Other BCC scorers: Kenedra Smith 3, Jennette Taylor 6 (and four steals and four assists), McLean 2, Emily Jackson 2.
After six straight losses, the Dolphins have won three straight games and are 5-7 overall.
