Mike’s Garage Band was recently congratulated for its contributions to Brunswick County charities.
The band started out like most garage bands—just a group of musical people settling here from different parts of the country wanting to have fun at the end of 2010.
Band members consist of Mike Haase on guitar and vocals, John Staryak, keyboard and vocals, Chuck Krambuhl, guitar and vocals, guitarists Tony DeFilippis and Mike Horgan, bassist Ken Haubrich and drummer Marty Wozniak.
Some members just wanted to have fun. Others are re-living their youth, trying something new, or fulfilling their bucket list.
Their first “garage party” gig in October 2011 sold out in less than two hours with more than 300 people in attendance. In April 2012, they played for 700 people and raised more than $10,500 for charity.
Their repertoire runs the gamut with familiar oldies like “Devil With A Blue Dress,” “Bring It On Home To Me,” “Under the Boardwalk,” “Hang On, Sloopy,” “Midnight Special,” “Piano Man,” “Sweet Home Alabama,” “Satisfaction” and “Boogie Shoes” as well as music from The Beatles, Dave Clark Five and Jay and the Americans.
