To the editor: I am fed up with the continued stonewalling and lack of any progress on our critical energy situation by members of the United States Congress.
Their inaction puts the nation at peril.
These folks are the ones who are most responsible for our $4 gas. There are many things that need to be done to ensure our energy independence. We should be doing all of these now without delay.
For electricity: build more nuclear power plants and build solar panels and windmills wherever we can. If Senators Kerry and Kennedy do not like the view from their sailboat or vacation home, I say get over it.
For fuel for our vehicles: Drill everywhere for oil with nothing off-limits; build refinery capacity; restart coal gasification in the West; increase biofuel production, including dropping import duties on ethanol; and mandate higher mileage vehicles.
We must do all of these things starting today. Vote everyone in Congress out of office who opposes this plan to, without delay, go all-out for energy independence.
