The Brick Landing Ladies Golf Association had its annual Rally for the Cure golf tournament April 23. Fifty-four men and women participated and raised $1,860 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which supports breast cancer research and awareness programs.

Ursula Styczynski, chairwoman of the event, thanked committee member Peggy Campana for soliciting gift certificates from The Boundary House Restaurant, Lion’s Paw Golf Club, Lockwood Folly Golf Club, Brierwood Golf Club, Shady Oaks Flower and Gift Shop, the 19th Green Nursery and Lowes Food Store. Gift certificates were raffled off at the luncheon that followed the golf event.

Additional donations were received from Keith Webb, Kathleen and Al Orringer and the Brick Landing Women’s Club.

Susan Brown and Austin Duncan won closest to the pin on the third and ninth holes, respectively, and won golf bags.

Lois Huber scored a hole-in-one on the ninth hole during the tourney. She used a 6-iron on the 128-yard hole. Betty Grace Grabb and Shirley Dowd were her playing partners.

Huber related the conversation leading up to the hole-in-one:

“My friend Betty Grace said, ‘Go for the pin,’ and my friend Shirley said, ‘Don’t worry about the bunker.’ I listened to their advice and swung hard. The ball flew into the air and bounced into the cup. It was wonderful!”

This is Huber’s first hole-in-one.
