The N.C. Department of Transportation planned to close two bridges in Brunswick County beginning this week, requiring months-long detours.
NCDOT will close the Galloway Road bridge over Pinch Gut Creek for bridge preservation work. The work was scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. Thursday, July 11, but has been delayed because of utility work. It is not yet clear when the work will begin.
The existing bridge, which was built in 1966, was identified by NCDOT as structurally deficient and functionally obsolete.
