Motorcycle and classic car enthusiasts—about 88 of them—showed up this weekendfor the Brunswick County Motorcycle Enthusiasts annual Poker Run.
The event raised about $3,000 for the group’s annual Christmas Toy Run. Starting at Shallotte Park, with an escort from the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, riders took a 75-mile route through Ash, over to Supply and back to the park. Along the way, they collected cards to try to build the best poker hand.
Afterward, riders relaxed to music by Christian southern rock band Direct Message Ministries from Greensboro and food and refreshments.
Organizer Jerome Munna said the event was a success and all had a good time. He offered special thanks to the sheriff’s office and others for helping with the event.
The group’s next big ride will be Dec. 13, when participants will participate in its annual Toy Run, beginning in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Shallotte. Christmas shopping for area youth will be done that day.
Also on Dec. 13, there will be a drawing for a 2009 Harley Davidson Crossbones motorcycle from Cape Fear Harley. Tickets are $50 each and only 600 will be sold. Raffle tickets are also for sale for 5x10 feet open trailer donated by A-1 Hitch and Trailer. Tickets are $5 each.
Anyone wanting more information about the group, its charitable activities or to purchase raffle tickets can call Munna at 754-5144 or stop by Fantasy Kitchen or Guy C. Lee.
