Brunswick County citizens can now pay traffic tickets and related costs online.
A new system, payNCticket, built by the N.C. Administrative Office of the Courts (NCAOC), allows citizens to make online payments via credit or debit card for most waivable traffic citizens.
North Carolina Courts handle the payment of more than half a million waivable offense citations (including traffic) each year. In fiscal year, 2008-2009, more than 644,000 of those citations were paid in the state, and 4,601 were in Brunswick County.
Before payNCticket, Brunswick County citizens had to pay fines and related court costs at the courthouse or by mail.
The system provides immediate benefits to citizens, court officials and court staffers. While it provides a more convenient payment option for citizens, the system allows quicker disposition of cases due to automatic updates of case records and reduced the workload of cashiers and clerks at courthouses around the state, according to a news release from the Brunswick County Clerk of Superior Court’s office.
“I am excited about this new online payment option available to the citizens of Brunswick County,” Clerk of Superior Court Cheryl Cheers Wilson stated. “I would like to encourage citizens to take advantage of this convenient service at www.payncticket.org.”
PayNCticket is being rolled out county-by-county throughout the state, and all counties are expected to be using the system by late summer 2010.
