The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit, whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county. The ACE team conducts driving while impaired and driver’s license checkpoints, as well as street-level investigations on controlled substances.
The ACE team works with the sheriff’s office K-9 Enforcement Team and Drug Enforcement Unit to apprehend narcotics suspects as well as saturating hot spots where criminal activity is reported.
The ACE Team works on speed reduction and DWI enforcement within Brunswick County and surrounding counties in cooperation with multi-agency traffic safety grant funded programs.
ACE deputies patrolled the following communities: Sunset Harbor, Calabash, Longwood, Ash, Shell Point, Sandy Creek, Jabbertown Road, Carolina Shores, Shallotte Point, Sea View, Ash-Little River Road, Southport, Oyster Harbor, Brunswick Forest and River Road in Belville.
From April 26 through May 2, ACE deputies issued 42 total arrests and citations, including one driving while impaired charge, seven driving while license revoked citations, eight no operator’s license charges, 17 speed violations, four expired registration charges and three inspection violations.
Thomas Maldando, 31, of 3274 Maco Road, Leland, was charged with driving while impaired.
