The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit, whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county.

The ACE team conducts driving while impaired, driver’s license and criminal information checkpoints, as well as street-level investigations on controlled substances. The ACE team works with the sheriff’s office K-9 Enforcement Team and Drug Enforcement Unit to apprehend narcotics suspects as well as saturating hot spots where criminal activity is reported. The ACE Team works on speed reduction and DWI enforcement within Brunswick County and surrounding counties in cooperation with multi-agency traffic safety grant funded programs.

ACE deputies issued 45 citations and charges from Feb. 16-22, including: two driving while license revoked citations, four no operator’s license violations, one insurance violation, 27 speeding violations, one fictitious information to an officer citation, one registration violation and two drug charges.

ACE deputies charged two suspects with driving while impaired. Joseph Edward McDuffie, 26, of 1419 Castle St., Wilmington, was charged with driving while impaired and driving while license revoked. Gregory Alvin Smith, 40, of 287 Island View Drive, Parkersburg, W.Va., was charged with driving while impaired.
