The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit, whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county. The ACE team conducts driving while impaired and driver’s license checkpoints, as well as street-level investigations on controlled substances.
The ACE team works with the sheriff’s office K-9 Enforcement Team and Drug Enforcement Unit to apprehend narcotics suspects as well as saturating hot spots where criminal activity is reported.
The ACE Team works on speed reduction and DWI enforcement within Brunswick County and surrounding counties in cooperation with multi-agency traffic safety grant funded programs.

ACE deputies patrolled the following communities: Ash, Westport, Longwood, Lakewood Estates, Hurricane Haven, Magnolia Greens, Waterford, Brunswick Forest, Navassa, Shell Point, Sunset Harbor, Shallotte Point, Holden Beach area, Sea View, Hurricane Haven, Oyster Harbor, Navassa, Funston Road, Jabbertown Road, Northwest, Calabash, Carolina Shores, Brunswick Plantation and Red Bug Road.

From June 7-13, ACE deputies issued 108 total arrests and citations, including 10 driving while impaired charges, one drive while consuming charge, two open container charges, 25 no operator’s license citations, 18 driving while license revoked charges, two careless and reckless driving charges, 18 speed violations, 11 expired registration charges, nine expired inspection charges, two illegal passing citations, one window tint violation, one littering citation, one fail to register with DMV citation, one fictitious registration citation, one stop sign violation, two underage possession of alcohol charges, one possession of marijuana charge, one possession of drug paraphernalia charge and one seat belt violation.

ACE deputies charged the following suspects:

•John Driscoll Adams, 59, of 605 Bay Blossom Circle SW, Bolivia; charged with DWI, DWLR, consuming alcohol while driving and littering.

•Nellie Johnson, 35, of 4541 Sweet Bay Drive, Southport; charged with DWI, careless and reckless driving, driving while license revoked, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

•Jose Guadalope Esparza, 38, of 161 Wilson Ave., Richlands; charged with driving while impaired and no operator’s license.

•Steven Armour, 25, of 2048 Lake Ridge Drive, Fayetteville; charged with driving while impaired and driving while license revoked.

•Daniel Williams, 33, of 3170 Sturgis Drive, Shallotte; charged with driving while impaired and driving while license revoked.

•Rebekah Seals, 25, of 516 White Hawk Court, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; charged with driving while impaired.

•Jawn Vazquez, 27, of 1055 Stanley Road, Supply; charged with driving while impaired and no operator’s license.

Three driving while impaired charges were handed off to New Hanover County Sheriff’s deputies for prosecution for a June 11 checkpoint ACE deputies assisted with a checkpoint in New Hanover County.
