The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit, whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county. The ACE team conducts driving while impaired and driver’s license checkpoints, as well as street-level investigations on controlled substances.
The ACE team works with the sheriff’s office K-9 Enforcement Team and Drug Enforcement Unit to apprehend narcotics suspects as well as saturating hot spots where criminal activity is reported.
The ACE Team works on speed reduction and DWI enforcement within Brunswick County and surrounding counties in cooperation with multi-agency traffic safety grant funded programs.

ACE deputies patrolled the following communities: Ash, Westport, Mallory Creek, Longwood, Lakewood Estates, Turkey Trap Road, Magnolia Greens, Waterford, Brunswick Forest, Navassa, Shell Point, Sunset Harbor, Shallotte Point, Holden Beach area, McMilly Road, Navassa, Jabbertown Road, Northwest, Shallotte area, Pireway Road, Calabash, Carolina Shores, Kingtown Road, Mount Misery Road, North Mulberry Road, Hale Swamp Road, N.C. 211, N.C. 133, U.S. 74-76, U.S. 17, Maco Road and Red Bug Road.

From July 19-25, ACE deputies issued 96 total arrests and citations, including one driving while impaired charge, four no operator’s license charges, two driving while license revoked charges, 56 speed violations, two expired registration citations, four expired inspection citations, three insurance violations, two fictitious registration citations, two open container violations, one stop sign violation, one fail to register with the DMV citation, one no helmet violation, one drinking in public citation, four possession of marijuana charges, 12 fugitives arrested on outstanding warrants, one possession of stolen property charge, one fail to produce registration citation and one fail to change address citation.

Matthew Jacob McPhee, 29, of 611 Bynum St., Chapel Hill, was charged with driving while impaired.
