Existing home sales in Brunswick County inched up again in December 2008, from 110 in November to 114 in December.
Sales were up 41 percent over December 2007, when only 81 houses were sold, according to the most recent report from the N.C. Association of Realtors.
The average cost of a house in Brunswick County decreased slightly between 2007 and 2008, going from $260,306 to $253,488.
The association also reported buyers spent $25,897,600 on houses in December 2008, up from $21,084,771 in December 2007 and up from $25,536,204 in November 2008.
The only other market to post an increase between 2007 and 2008 was Brevard, which went from 24 homes sold to 30 between 2007 and 2008 and from 16 to 30 between November and December.
The Wilmington area saw a 25 percent decrease between 2007 and 2008, and a 38 percent increase between November and December.
Jacksonville reported a 14 percent decrease between 2007 and 2008 and a 20 percent increase between November and December.
The Triangle region posted the biggest decrease, a 47 percent drop between December 2007 and December 2008, going from 2,055 houses sold to 1,089. The region’s sales dropped only 8 percent between November and December.
