The Special Olympics cheerleading team, the Brunswick Shakers, took home the silver medal in a recent cheerleading tournament. The SONC Cheerleading Tournament was March 12 at Butler High School in Charlotte. The girls were led by head coach Cindy Neely with the help of two assistant coaches, Lindsey Smith and Devan McLachlen, and competed against eight teams.

Nivea Bryant also won the gold medal in the individual performance division competing against nine individual athletes in her division.

The Brunswick Shakers are all members of the Brunswick Interagency Program at Brunswick Community College. Space for practices was provided by the Brunswick Community College Dinah E. Gore Center. Brunswick County Parks and Recreation sponsored the team’s travel and competition expenses.

The Special Olympics Spring Games is April 15 at Town Creek Park in Winnabow.
