President George W. Bush has declared a federal disaster for the three counties that suffered the most damage from Tropical Storm Hanna—Brunswick, Beaufort and Person counties.
N.C. Governor Mike Easley requested the disaster declaration on Sept. 30, and Bush declared the disaster Oct. 8, Brunswick County Emergency Services Director Randy Thompson said.
Thompson said the presidential declaration is for public assistance, not individual assistance; meaning individual homeowners cannot apply for assistance.
