Business Expo set for April 26
The Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce will host a business expo for chamber members and the public beginning at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 26, at 101 Stone Chimney Place in Supply. Business After Hours will follow the expo from 5:30-7 p.m. There will be lots of door prizes.
The cost per booth for exhibitors is $75. Be sure to bring either an appetizer or dessert for After Hours. Setup begins at noon and must be completed by 3:15 p.m.
There will be a random drawing for a free full-page ad in the Brunswick Bulletin Newsletter, valued at $100. Sponsorships are also available starting at $250. Sponsorships include advertising, internal and external public relations, recognition in the 2012 Business Expo Highlight brochure and signage.
The deadline for sponsorship is April 9. Vendors are encouraged to provide giveaways, games and contests during the expo.

Doctors join Women’s Center
Li Xu, M.D., and Edward Woo, M.D., both board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, have joined the physician staff of Brunswick Women’s Center.
Xu is the newest team member at Brunswick Women’s Center and is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology. She attended medical school at Shandong Medical University in China and completed her residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in New Brunswick.
Woo is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and has more than 15 years of women’s healthcare experience. He attended medical school at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada, and completed his residency at Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio.
Woo and Xu join Lee Toler, D.O., and Tracey McCarthy, D.O., in providing a full range of gynecological and obstetrical services. They care for women of all ages at offices in Supply, Sunset Beach and Leland. All Brunswick Women’s Center physicians are on staff at Brunswick Novant Medical Center, which features state-of-the-art surgical operating rooms and a luxurious maternity center.

Ramos named top criminal defense lawyer
Shallotte Attorney Michael R. Ramos has been selected by Super Lawyers Magazine as one of the top criminal defense lawyers in the State of North Carolina. Super Lawyers is a rating service of outstanding lawyers who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.
Ramos has practiced criminal law in Brunswick and surrounding counties for 30 years. Certified as a specialist in state and federal criminal law by the North Carolina State Bar Board of Legal Specialization, he represents clients charged with serious criminal offenses in state and federal court throughout Southeastern North Carolina.

Food Lion contributes to interchurch council
The South Brunswick Interchurch Council (SBIC) has received a $3,000 donation from the Food Lion Charitable Foundation.
The council will use the gift to help provide food for the needy at its food pantry. The pantry is open every Saturday morning at Camp United Methodist Church in Shallotte.
“Food Lion has been an invaluable partner with Feeding America for years. This is a company with heart and compassion for those in need,” said pantry coordinator Mary Pritchard. The pantry first opened its doors in 1998.
“Last year, the pantry, operated by SBIC and its partnership of 20 area churches, served 20,856 people. Our mission is to ‘improve the quality of life for our community by meeting basic human needs.’ This gift will certainly greatly help us achieve our mission.”
Established in 2001, the Food Lion Charitable Foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry in the communities it serves. The Food Lion family of banners, based in Salisbury, operates more than 1,300 supermarkets, either directly or through affiliated entities, under the names of Food Lion, Bloom, Harvey’s or Reid’s.

Brooks qualifies for Million Dollar Round Table
John Brooks of Coastal Educators Insurance Agency, an exclusive agent for The Horace Mann Companies, has achieved membership in the insurance industry’s premier association, the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT), an international organization that recognizes agents for exemplary sales, ethics and service.
A 37-year veteran agent of Horace Mann, Brooks is a member of the Horace Mann Hall of Fame and has qualified for Horace Mann’s annual leadership conference each year since 1976. He credits his son Brent for the MDRT membership accomplishment. Brent  has been working with his father and meeting the insurance and financial needs of teachers and school employees for the past three years. They will attend the MDRT conference in San Francisco in February.
