In observance of Memorial Day, Nocha White American Legion Post 503 in Calabash has planned the following programs that all veterans and the general public are encouraged to attend:
Sunday, May 25, at 1 p.m. in Shallotte at the National Guard Armory on Main Street: Local and county officials, military organizations, veterans groups and the JROTC Color Guard from West Brunswick High School will participate.
Monday, May 26, at 11 a.m. at the Calabash Fire Department parking lot, next to Calabash City Hall: Participating are the towns of Calabash and Carolina Shores, Calabash Elks, Marine Corp League and Calabash American Legion Post 503. It will be the sixth annual Calabash Memorial Day Observance. Special guest speakers will be Congressman Mike McIntyre and LTG Joseph Kinzer, retired Army three-star general.
Friday, May 30, (traditional Memorial Day) at 11 a.m. in the parking lot of Calabash American Legion Post 503 at 10277 Beach Drive: Post members will conduct a Memorial Service.
Memorial Day is in memory of those people who died in service to the country and honors the veterans and those service members currently serving overseas.
