For those who wish to feast rather than fry in the kitchen during the holidays, options are out there.
The Purple Onion at 4647 Main St. in Shallotte is among local eateries taking advance food orders just in time for holiday feasting.
Offerings range from baked boneless black oak ham glazed with honey, molasses and brown sugar, priced at $5.99 per pound, to a variety of festive side orders, ranging from $6.95 to $9.95 per two-pound container, which can be prepared in advance.
The holiday menu includes choices of Southern-style cornbread or oyster dressings; buttermilk mashed red potatoes, herb-roasted potatoes or sweet potato casserole. Other items include honey-glazed baby carrots, country green beans or green bean casserole, broccoli cheese casserole, buttered corn and baked macaroni and cheese.
There are also a choice of fresh-baked rolls and huge variety of holiday pies, cheesecakes and cakes.

Advance holiday food orders of fully cooked turkeys, hams and side dishes are also available at any of the Lowes Foods locations or online at www.lowesfoodscatering.com.
Leland area residents can also order prepared holiday foods in advance at Harris Teeter or through the store’s Party To Go online ordering via www.harristeeter.com.
Local bakeries are also taking pre-holiday orders, including Sugar Confections at 4830-3 Main St. in Shallotte (754-3838).
Carolyn Wright, owner of Seaside Bakery at 7026 Beach Drive SW No. 4, Ocean Isle Beach, is offering custom holiday gift baskets, pies, cakes and cookie trays.
The bakery now offers wine and craft beer and a wide selection of gourmet foods, including high-end olive oils. Customers can choose what they wish to go into tailor-made gift baskets, Wright said.
In recent months, she said she has really expanded the shop and its offerings.
