Candidate filing for upcoming municipal elections begins Friday

BOLIVIA—Candidate filing for the upcoming fall 2011 municipal elections begins Friday.

Candidate filing opens at noon Friday, July 1, and runs until noon Friday, July 15, for most Brunswick County municipalities.

For the towns of Southport and Navassa, candidate filing will run from noon Friday, July 25, until noon Friday, Aug. 12.

The 2011 General Election will be Tuesday, Nov. 8.

The following seats will appear on the ballot in November:

•Bald Head Island: Three council members

•Belville: Mayor and two commissioners

•Boiling Spring Lakes: Mayor and two commissioners

•Bolivia: Mayor and four commissioners

•Calabash: Mayor and two commissioners

•Carolina Shores: Mayor and three commissioners

•Caswell Beach: Mayor and three commissioners

•Holden Beach: Mayor and five commissioners

•Leland: Mayor and two council members

•Navassa: Three council members

•Northwest: Mayor and two council members

•Oak Island: Mayor and three councilors

•Ocean Isle Beach: Mayor and three commissioners

•Sandy Creek: Mayor and two council members

•Shallotte: Mayor and three aldermen

•Southport: Mayor and three aldermen

•St. James: Two councilors

•Sunset Beach: Mayor and two councilors

•Varnamtown: Mayor and three aldermen

•Brunswick Regional Water and Sewer H2GO: Two commissioners

•Southeast Brunswick Sanitary District: Two commissioners

•Dosher Hospital Board of Trustees: Two trustees
