Mount Olive’s Carly White has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week during week No. two of the 2012 season.
The junior middle blocker, who is a West Brunswick High School graduate, recorded 17 kills in Mount Olive’s three-set win over Peach Belt Conference member UNC Pembroke and reached double figures in kills in all four matches at the MOC Invitational as the Trojans posted a 3-1 record and finished as tournament runner-up, coming within two points of winning the title.
Against UNCP, White had only one error in 23 attempts for a .696 hitting percentage, along with four blocks for a 6.3 points per set average. She had 15 kills and only three errors to go with four blocks in the title match against PSAC member Millersville. In the fifth set, White helped the Trojans save three match points and tie the set 14-14 before Millersville pulled out the 16-14 win.
She added 11 kills and three blocks in a win over Virginia State and 12 kills and four blocks in a win over Saint Augustine’s. In four tournament matches, White averaged 3.67 kills, 1. block and 4.2 points per set while compiling a .404 hitting percentage in 99 attempts.
For the season, White leads the conference in total kills (91), total blocks (29), block assists (25) and points (112.5).
The Trojans are 4-4 overall on the season.
