The Carolina Master Chorale and Mason Memorial Choir will perform “Hearts of Passion IV: A Gospel Valentine” at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Seaside United Methodist Church in Sunset Beach.

The concert is one of three performances scheduled around the Grand Strand. The Myrtle Beach, S.C.-based Carolina Master Chorale’s prior collaborative “Gospel Valentine” drew its largest audiences in the last dozen years, as packed crowds grooved and moved to Southern gospel, high-energy spiritual arrangements and the latest and most powerful in black gospel music.

The 2013 “Gospel” will showcase an updated program in the same entertainment format. The 80-voice chorale, under the direction of Timothy Koch, will open with well-known spirituals and Southern-hymn tune arrangements like “Elijah Rock,” “Precious Lord,” “Down by the Riverside,” “City Called Heaven” and “Love, Divine, All Loves Excelling.” Each will be presented in dynamic new arrangements showcasing the power and skill of the region’s finest symphonic choir.

The Mason Temple Church of God in Christ Memorial Choir of Conway, S.C., led by president Gary Lee, will open the concert’s second half with performances of the singers’ most exciting, contemporary music for worship from the gospel church. The chorale and choir will join forces for a “raise-the-roof” finale in arrangements of the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, including “Total Praise” and a special encore to be revealed at the concert.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $5 for students. Tickets can be purchased at Seashore Drugs in Calabash, the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce at 1521 U.S. 17 S., the Joan Crosby Shop at 7506 N. Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach, Bodega at 301 Main St. in Conway, online at CarolinaMasterChorale.com or call (843) 444-5774. This joint concert will also be presented at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at Trinity Church, 3000 N. Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach, and at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at Mason Temple Church of God in Christ, 1501 Seventh Ave. in Conway.
