Meghan Renee Cate and Thomas Keith McSwain were united in marriage on Oct. 22, 2011, at the Reformed Church of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.
The Rev. Jeff Neevel officiated the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Timothy Nelson and Janet Shearer Cate of Sunset Beach and the granddaughter of Julia Donaldson Cate, the late Philip Dykes Cate and the late Robert Melvin and Geraldine Tyson Shearer of Atlanta, Ga.
The bridegroom is the son of James and Karen McSwain of Holden Beach and grandson of Vivien McSwain of Naples, Fla., and the late Arthur McSwain, and Ralph and Mary Harris of Southern Pines.
The bride was given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father. She wore a white, strapless mermaid-style dress with embellishment designed and made by Priscilla of Boston.
Maids of honor were her sisters Stephanie Shearer Cate of Washington, D.C., Margot Jane Cate of Sunset Beach and ZTA sorority sister Meagan O’Daniel of Washington, D.C.
Bridesmaids were Whitney Austin, Liz Nenni Hagan, Sarah Davenport Noble, Jenna Miller of Raleigh and Katie Sparrow of Charlotte. They wore strapless, coral chiffon dresses by Priscilla of Boston.
Jim McSwain, father of the groom, was best man.
Groomsmen were Phillip Irvin, Caleb Knox, William Nance of Raleigh and Caleb Walker of Holden Beach.
Dylan Clayton of Seattle, Wash., was the reader.
A reception, hosted by the bride’s parents, followed the ceremony at The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands.
The bride is a graduate of North Carolina State University and is employed as a public relations manager by The Ritz-Carlton LLC. The bridegroom is a graduate of North Carolina State University and is employed by Sea Star Shipping as district manager.
Following a honeymoon in Puerto Rico, the couple now resides in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.
