CGA golf rules clinic May 17 at Cinghiale Creek

The First Tee of Brunswick County has some exciting news for all middle school and high school golfers in the area. Jason Cox, Carolinas Golf Association director of junior golf, will be at Cinghiale Creek on May 17 to conduct a golf rules seminar at 4:30 p.m. He will also have the Tarheel Youth Golf Association (TYGA) and Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) junior golf tournament schedules for 2010. So come on out and sharpen up on your golf rules.
“Growing up in North Carolina, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to compete in junior events conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association,” Cox said. “I remember waiting each spring for the junior schedule of the Carolinas to be mailed to our club so I could see where the CGA junior championships were to be played. I also recall that the list of junior events did not fill one sheet of paper. In 2010, we will use over six pages to list the more than 360 junior tournaments conducted in the Carolinas.”
By visiting the Tarheel Youth Golf Association website (www.tyga.org), you can find out all the details of the numerous opportunities offered each year to North Carolina junior golfers. In addition to the latest youth golf news, the website offers a free golf score posting service so members can establish a USGA handicap index. Membership in TYGA is free.
“As the number of junior events has grown, the CGA has also expanded its junior program to include the Tarheel Youth Golf Association,” Cox said.
The CGA and TYGA programs include 11 major championships, the N.C. Middle School Championships, 19 one-day TYGA events, two USGA junior amateur qualifiers, more than 20 Rules of Golf seminars, two College Golf Nights and the N.C. Junior Golf Night, which honors the N.C. Junior Players of the Year and the N.C. All-State Golf Teams.  The CGA distributes more than $40,000 in grants to numerous programs throughout the Carolinas that support junior golf.
