Wesley Champion, 14, of Clinton, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout on Aug. 14. He is a member of Troop 27, which is sponsored by Graves Memorial Presbyterian Church.
In recognition of his outstanding achievement, an Eagle Scout Court of Honor was convened on Oct. 21 at Grove Park Baptist Church in Clinton.
Champion, a freshman at Clinton High School, is the son of Danny and Chandee Champion; brother to Holden; grandson of Harvey and Betty Champion and Nicky and Jackie Varnam, all of Supply; and great-grandson of Beatrice H. Varnam of Supply and Annie Rae Stanley of Ocean Isle Beach.
To become an Eagle Scout, a Boy Scout must complete at least 21 merit badges, 12 of which are Eagle-required. The Scout must have positions of leadership within the troop, demonstrate Scout spirit, live by the Scout oath and scout law and lead a service project to benefit the community.
For his Eagle Scout project, he raised funds, purchased, installed and trained church members on the proper procedures on the usage of an automated external defibrillator to benefit his church, Grove Park Baptist Church.
