Every year, all but a handful of teams walk off the field, heads hung in despair after losing their final game of the season. And that’s only if the squad was good enough to qualify for the state playoffs. Bad clubs begin to count shoulder pads and helmets upon the conclusion of the regular season, usually in late October or early November.
