St. Luke to break ground

St. Luke Lutheran Church, 5869 Ocean Highway West in Ocean Isle Beach (opposite Union School Road), will celebrate the groundbreaking for its new sanctuary, administration area and classrooms on Sunday, July 13.

Services will begin at 10 a.m. inside the existing sanctuary and later will move outside to the location of the new buildings.

Special invited guests will include former pastors of the congregation, charter members, a representative from R.H. McClure Builders and others.

A reception will follow the service.

The church began in 1989 with Sunday services at Shallotte Middle School and in 1995 moved into its existing building.

Baptist Youth Choir to have concerts

The North Carolina Baptist All-State Youth Choir (ASYC) will present concerts July 15-20 throughout North Carolina.

Local student Drake Phelps of Shallotte will be among more than 90 high school students from across the state that comprise the auditioned choral group.

They will gather at Campbell University for three days of intense rehearsal, and then proceed to various worship/concert and ministry venues.

Eastside World to have meetings

Eastside World Outreach (the Purple Church), 4755 Main St. in Shallotte, will have special meetings with Todd Bentley’s father David, from the Lakeland, Fla., outpouring at 7 p.m. July 25-26 and 10 a.m. July 27.

Church plans VBS

Southport Baptist Church will host vacation Bible school daily from 9 a.m.–noon Aug. 4-8 for children ages 4 through sixth-grade.

There will be a family night at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8.

Special Friends Gospel Concert set

The Southeastern Gospel Music Association is helping sponsor the third annual Special Friends Gospel Concert for area pastors and youth pastors at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at United Vision Church, 2386 A.I. Clemmons Road in Shallotte.

The night will feature Crabb Revival, Gerald Crabb and special guest, Simply JK. Seating is limited.

A love offering will betaken, with all proceeds supporting the mentally and physically challenged in the community.

There will also be a revival July 13-15 with Gerald Crabb preaching.

Parker to perform at Southport church

The sounds of Southern gospel music will ring loudly on Sunday, July 27, at the Beach Road Baptist Church in Southport, as popular Southern gospel recording artist Ivan Parker will be featured in a special concert event beginning at 6 p.m.

Parker has spent more than two-and-a-half decades ministering in churches and arenas, sharing his testimony and vocal talents.

Traveling with the southern gospel quartet Gold City for more than 10 years, he helped the group earn 19 Top 10 hits, including the 1993 Southern Gospel Song of the Year Dove Award from the Gospel Music Association.

Since embarking on a solo career in 1994, Parker has had more than a dozen solo recordings. Earlier this year, he had his first No. 1 hit, “I Choose,” which was at the top of “The Singing News Magazine” Top 80 Radio Airplay Chart.

For the past decade, he has been regularly featured on the Bill Gaither Homecoming Video and Concert Series. This year, the Gaither Gospel Series will release The Best Of Ivan Parker Collection in DVD and CD format.

Inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame in 1993, he has received more than 20 soloist and male vocalist of the year awards from a variety of fan and trade publications, including the 2007 Fan Award for Male Vocalist of the Year by subscribers of “The Singing News Magazine.”

Little River UMC sets praise concert

Little River United Methodist Church, U.S. 17 at Mineola Ave. in Little River, S.C., will host a concert of praise and worship songs, sing-alongs and an old fashioned outdoor barbecue, complete with baked beans, coleslaw, rolls, drinks and dessert from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, July 12, in the church parking lot.

Tickets are $8 for adults; $4 for children 12 and younger. Tickets are on sale in the fellowship hall or call Donna at (843) 249-2329.

Tickets at the door are $9 each.

OIB chapel sets services

Ocean Isle Beach Chapel will have services at 8:30 a.m. on the beach and 9:30 a.m. at the chapel, 4 West 3rd St. on Ocean Isle Beach, on July 13.
