Girls Night Out set at Calvary

Calvary Baptist Church in Shallotte will present Girls’ Night Out from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, featuring Marian Jordan, author, speaker and founder of Redeemed Girl Ministries in Houston, Texas.

Admission is free. No registration needed. All women and girls welcome.

Youth gospel concert set

New Hope Freewill Baptist Church, 88 Snowfield Road in Leland, will host a youth gospel concert featuring the New Hope Freewill Baptist Junior Choir at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23.

Also appearing will be the Townsend Temple’s Junior Choir of Columbus County.

Admission is free.

Oak Grove

plans BBQ

Oak Grove Baptist Church, 1356 Holden Beach Road SW, will have a barbecue fundraiser benefit for Vernon and Judy Lewis beginning at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, in the church fellowship hall.

Whole Boston butts are $20; barbecue or chicken plates are $6 each.

Zion Hill

sets events

Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church will host Youth Sunday at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, with the Rev. Curtis McMillian.

There will be a fish fry at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30.

Revival services are set for 7:30 p.m. nightly Sept. 8-12. Guest minister for the week will be the Rev. Beverly Stanley. There will be various musical guests each night.

Crystal Spring plans homecoming

Crystal Spring Missionary Baptist Church, 4754 Blue Banks Loop Road in Leland, will celebrate its annual homecoming service at 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 31.

The Rev. Elousie Jacobs and Summersville AME Zion Church will be special guests.

Dinner will be served immediately after the service.

Trinity plans Sunday sermon

Pastor Skip Williams’ sermon will be “The Devil’s Workshop,” based on scripture from 1 John 2:15-17 and 2nd Thessalonians 2:6-16, on Sunday, Aug. 24, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 209 East Nash St. in Southport.

There will be a casual worship service at 8:30 a.m., a contemporary service at 9:40 a.m. in Murrow Hall with the Trinity Worship Band and a traditional worship service in the sanctuary at 11 a.m.

Nursery care will be available during the 8:30 a.m., 9:40 a.m. and 11 a.m. services.

Sunday school begins at 9:45 a.m. for all ages and children’s church will take place during the 11 a.m. service.

New Hope plans homecoming

New Hope Freewill Baptist Church, 88 Snowfield Road in Leland, will have its annual homecoming celebration featuring the Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church of Piscataway, N.J. at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 7. Dinner will follow.

The Sensational Nightingales will appear in concert at 5 p.m.

Singing Christmas Tree rehearsals begin Sept. 3

The 2008 Singing Christmas Tree is just around the corner. This will be the 20th year for the event and the grand finale.

Rehearsals will be from 7:45-9 p.m. in the choir room at Ocean View Baptist Church, 7300 N. Kings Hwy. in Myrtle Beach, S.C. beginning Wednesday, Sept. 3, and continuing each Wednesday until the performances.

All interested singers, high school age and older, are invited to sing. You do not have to be a member of Ocean View Baptist to participate.

Performance dates are Dec. 11-15.
