7 Up's service planned at Big Macedonia Baptist

Members of the Big Macedonia Baptist Church are planning a 7 Up’s service for 3 p.m. Sunday, April 6.

The theme will be “Standing for Jesus in any Situation.”

Speakers for the afternoon will be: Stand Up-Minister Edna Lewis; Speak Up-Sister Yolonda Hewett; Grow Up-Brother Kendrick Morgan; Look Up-Minister Norma Frink; Pray Up-Deacon Jimmy Hankins; Wake Up-Deacon Gregory Williams; Shut Up-Sister Shelia Washington; and Sister Stephanie Marlow will wrap it up.

Minister Gaye Mercer will bring the word.

Zion Hill to present Motown Revue

The Zion Hill Youth Department will present “The Motown Revue: Fashion Frenzy” at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at the International Longshore Association Hall in Southport.

Calabash Presbyterian to host Kid's Movie Night

Calabash Presbyterian Church will host a free Kid’s Movie Night at 6:30 p.m. on April 11, featuring the film, “Ratattouille.”

First Baptist Church to host Butterfly Sisterhood Banquet

The Ladies’ Ministry of First Baptist Church of Shallotte will host its second annual Butterfly Sisterhood Banquet on April 25.

Guest speaker will be Sharon Jaynes, author and vice president of Proverbs 31 Ministries.

Cindy Johnson will provided praise and worship music.

Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.

There will be door prizes, worship and inspiration.

Tickets are limited and a $20 per person donation is suggested.

Ocean View announces Vacation Bible School events

Ocean View Baptist Church has announced its VBS 2008 event will be from 6-9 p.m. July 6–11 for ages 3 and older.

The event will be a week of nonstop action as to learn how to live God’s unshakeable truth. Come be apart of God’s word, cool crafts, motivating music and eat at the Snack Shack and play games at Recreational Reef.

Pig roast set at Brunswick Islands

Brunswick Island Baptist Church will have a Pig Roast from noon-3 p.m. Saturday, April 5. Plates are $6 each. Carry out only.

Choplin to direct performance at Seaside UMC

Choir Director Kathryn Parker of Seaside United Methodist Church has arranged for nationally recognized composer/director Pepper Choplin to personally direct four combined choirs, singing his own compositions, at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at Seaside United Methodist Church, 1300 Seaside Road SW in Sunset Beach.

There is no charge for this performance.

In addition to Seaside’s choirs, there will be choirs from Ocean View Baptist, Calabash Presbyterian and Camp United Methodist Church.

Choplin, who will be directing up to 175 singers, is a native of North Carolina, having received his music education at UNC Greensboro. He later earned his master’s degree in music composition from Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

His leadership in ministerial music began at Myrtle Grove Baptist Church in Wilmington.

Residing in Raleigh with his wife, Heather, and children Kelcy and Erin, he is currently serving as minister of music at Greystone Baptist Church.
